WhatsApp privateness coverage: No accounts will likely be deleted for not accepting replace by May 15


Facebook-owned WhatsApp stated on Friday that no person account will likely be deleted for not accepting its privateness coverage replace, the deadline for which was set as May 15. The messaging platform is dealing with a probe by the Competition Commission of India on the coverage replace, with the anti-trust watchdog taking exception to the corporate’s ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ strategy.

WhatsApp had introduced a controversial coverage replace in January 2021 and stated that it could be obligatory for customers to just accept or their accounts could be blocked.

The coverage replace entails extra sharing of knowledge between WhatsApp and Facebook, particularly person chats with enterprise accounts on the platform. WhatsApp has been reiterating that the coverage won’t have an effect on privateness of customers’ private messages. The replace was initially to return into impact on February 8, however was pushed to May 15 following backlash.

In March, the CCI ordered a probe against the messaging platform over the brand new privateness coverage replace underneath Section four on abuse of dominant place.
